The Advertising Specialty Institute® (ASI), the largest technology, marketing and information provider in the $25.8 billion promotional products industry, today announced its editorial team won six national Azbee Awards of Excellence and seven regional awards in one of the nation’s most competitive B2B contests.

This year, the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) received more than 800 entries in 63 categories for its Azbee Awards. ASI competed against print and digital media like Bloomberg Industry Group, American Bar Association and WebMD.

ASI Media won five Gold and two Silver awards in ASBPE’s Mid-Atlantic Regional competition.

“I love that our most ambitious work was honored for excellence, crowning another amazing year of content produced by our dedicated editorial team,” said Michele Bell, ASI vice president of editorial, education and special events. “ASI’s decades-long commitment to informing the promo industry about critical issues has reached new heights and I couldn’t be prouder.”

ASI Media’s 2023 Azbee national award winners are:

  • Gold for the Counselor State of the Industry issue in the Print category, awarded to ASI Media staff, including Nate Kucsma, senior executive director of research. The massive SOI package includes a series of articles and infographics based on hard data compiled by ASI to explain the year’s most important trends, along with the annual Top 40 lists and Counselor Award winners, including Person of the Year.
  • Gold for “5 Ideas to Improve Promo” in the Web Feature Series category, awarded to ASI Media staff, including Theresa Hegel, executive editor of digital content; Sara Lavenduski, executive editor of digital content; and Christopher Ruvo, digital news director. The week-long series tackled five industry-defining problems, thoroughly exploring each one with dogged reporting and insightful analysis, while highlighting steps readers could take to make serious progress on big ideas like eliminating plastic and fixing the industry’s “brandfill” image.
  • Gold for the sustainability resource site Promo for the Planet in the category of Web Microsite/Special Section, awarded to Hegel, along with ASI Media staff. The site contains a wealth of articles detailing the latest news, biggest trends and best ideas to build a more sustainable industry, featuring helpful glossaries of terms and certifications and an industry advisory board that informs ASI’s coverage.

  • The awards recognized ASI’s editorial expertise across a variety of categories in both print and digital, including ASICentral’s Twitter account, which earned an honorable mention for Overall Excellence-Social Media Account of the Year, for Vincent Driscoll, ASI’s digital content director and one of the biggest connectors in the promo industry, keeping everyone informed through his relevant content, personality and humor.

In April, ASI Media was also honored with three national Jesse H. Neal Awards, considered the “Pulitzer Prize” of B2B journalism. ASI magazines are the only promo industry publications to ever win a prestigious Neal award. ASI Media provides the most authoritative business and research content in the industry and has been honored with a total of 347 journalism awards. C.J. Mittica is editor-in-chief of ASI Media.
